Access Statement for The Baskerville



Introduction

The Baskerville is a traditional village pub and restaurant constructed in the mid 1930s with very little change in its layout since that time. It has 2 double bedrooms, one twin bedroom and 1 family room all situated on the first floor. All rooms have ensuite facilities. It is a 4 star in from the AA and Visit Britain and has a silver accolade from Visit Britain.

 
Pre-Arrival

• Customers can either phone during opening hours or email their queries or requests. There is no fax
• There is no phone access in the rooms but email access to the web is available through personal computers using our Wifi.
• The Baskerville is 150 meters from Shiplake Station on the Henley-on-Thames branch line from Twyford.
• First Great Western trains run frequently to Henley and Twyford giving access to Paddington, Reading and stations west.
• Henley-on-Thames is the nearest town and is 2 miles by train, bus, car, taxi or walking. Reading is next 7 miles.
• The Baskerville is situated on the Thames path.
• The luggage for walking or cycling parties can be forwarded to us and we will arrange for delivery to the next destination.
• Equipment hire shops are available in Reading
 
Arrival & Car Parking Facilities

• There is a level tarmac surfaced car park for 15 cars with no barriers or speed bumps that is floodlit at night.
• Parking spaces adjacent to the entrance doors can be reserved for customers with access difficulties.
• These parking spaces allow access to the rear of cars.
• The nearest public car parking is at Shiplake station but this is full during weekdays.
• We are a dog friendly pub that provides bowls for dogs. Dogs are permitted in rooms and the bar.
• All customers are given a front door key to access the pub during closing hours.
• A mobile ramp is inside the front door to cover the two steps at the entrance for wheel chair users.
• Staff will assist those with access difficulties and will also take luggage to their rooms.
• Staff will arrange taxis for customers and try to meet any other needs.

 
Main Entrance, Reception & Ticketing Area

• Access to the pub is through two sets of double doors into the bar area. The doors can be hooked back to give access for wheel chairs
• Booking in is restricted to pub opening hours.
• Booking in is done at the bar.
• The bar and restaurant are on one level with no steps. The floor is partly timber and partly carpet.
• Lighting is by dimmed spotlights, wall lights, centre lights and candles and oil table lamps.

 
Public Areas - Hall, Stairs, Landing, Corridors etc

• Access to bedrooms on first floor is by a wide stair comprising two flights and a half landing. Stair risers are not steep.
• There is a wide first floor corridor to the rooms.
• Stairs and corridors are carpeted and lit by typical centre lighting.
• Room doors are timber and use a standard mortise lock and key.
• Room ensuite facilities include a shower, wash hand basin and WC with no modifications. 
• Some showers are walk-in, i.e. no doors.

 
Public Areas - Sitting room, lounges, lobbies etc

• There are no guest lounges or sitting rooms.
• Guest can use the seating in the bar area should they wish.

 
Public WCs

• The Gents is through two doors off the bar via one small marked step. The flooring is quarry tiles.
• The Ladies is off the restaurant via two doors and a vestibule. The flooring is vinyl.
• There are no disabled toilets.

 
Restaurant / Dining Room, Bar & Bar area, Take Away & Cafe

• Lighting is dimmed spotlights, wall lights, candles and oil table lamps.
• The tables are widely spaced apart.
• Tables are a mixture of sizes and shapes and some have centre pedestals allowing wheel chair users to use them.
• Seating is mainly cushioned farmhouse style seats though there are areas of wall bench seating. 
• Menus are printed on plain paper in a font size to suit the content on one page.
• The Baskerville is a non-smoking establishment.
• There is a large beer garden that has level access from the car park at the front of the pub.
• A large part of the garden is level being a mixture of grass and concrete areas.
• The garden tables are a mixture of very large round tables suitable for wheel chair users and picnic benches.
• Customers are provided with fully itemized bills before payment.
• Both the restaurant and the beer garden are a few meters from the main entrance.
• Orders for restaurant meals are taken at the bar or at the table. 
• Orders for meals in the garden are taken at the bar and must be secured by a credit card. 
• There is waitress service in both the restaurant and the garden except for BBQs which are self service.

Laundry

• Ironing board and iron are available on request.

 
Shop

• The nearest shop and post office is the Village Corner Shop which is across the road from the pub.
• Larger shops are available in Henley and Reading.

 
Conference & Meeting Rooms, Banqueting

• The Regatta Room off the main restaurant is available for meetings and dining for a maximum of twelve people.

 
Bedrooms & Sleeping Areas

• Being on the first floor and access via a stair, the bedrooms are not suitable for wheel chair users. Doors are standard.
• There is a hard wired smoke alarm system that operated a claxon.
• Bedrooms are carpeted and ensuites with non slip vinyl flooring.
• Lighting is bedside table lamps and centre pendants.
• Rooms have hairdryers, TVs, kettles and hospitality trays.
• Beds are standard double and twins. Extra blankets and pillows are available in the rooms
• Non-allergenic bedding can be provided on request.

 
Additional Information

• Fire evacuation procedures are printed on the back of room doors.
• There is live in staff that will help in an emergency.
• Alternatively, there are contact numbers for the owner and the manager in case of emergency. 
• Music, if played, is not loud and is turned off when the restaurant is busy.
